Customised Bricks
Customizing Robotic Hotwire-cut modules for vaulted geometry
2016 | Arkitektskolen Aarhus | Workshop Participant
Robotic fabrication, a testament to the digital age, offers unprecedented freedom in construction. In a workshop, 8 students utilized this freedom to craft a pavilion from 112 uniquely shaped bricks. Using 2 ABB IRB 120 robots with custom hotwire end effectors, EPS blocks were cut and assembled over 3 days. Each brick, requiring 2 passes and 4 curves, was meticulously crafted. My contribution involved developing a Grasshopper script to automate brick fabrication, enhancing existing code. Additionally, I created fabrication-ready drawings for a 1:5 scale notched beam model, ensuring precise visualization of brick angles.
